Cenntro to deliver 500 light electric vans to Japan
Cenntro is a US manufacturer headquartered in Freehold, New Jersey. However, the company’s electric vehicles are produced in Hangzhou in the Chinese province of Zhejiang. According to Cenntro, 500 units of the Metro MR are now rolling off the production line there for an unnamed customer from Japan. The model is a compact light van with an electric drive, which in its standard version measures 3.9 x 1.4 x 1.9 metres and has an output of 21.5 kW. In the case of the order from Japan, however, it is said to be an unspecified “customised” version.
“Our Metro MR is an ideal electric delivery vehicle for densely populated cities like Tokyo and Osaka,” said Peter Wang, CEO of Cenntro. “We see significant potential in Japan as a strong market for ultra-light electric utility vehicles.”
Cenntro is also active in Europe: in 2022, the company acquired a majority stake in the German provider of compact electric commercial vehicles Tropos Motors Europe – and its assembly plant. Here, too, the focus is on light vehicles in the L7e class.
