After settlement of legal dispute: Polestar finally becomes active in France

France has long been a blank spot on the map for Polestar due to a trade mark dispute. That is now changing: The Swedish-Chinese brand is planning its delayed market entry in France for the summer of this year.

The company states that it intends to establish itself in France with an agency sales model based on several existing partners from the Volvo network. The electric cars will be available both online via the Polestar website and in showrooms, which the brand plans to open in several cities across the country.

Polestar has already set the course in terms of personnel: The electric car manufacturer announces that it has appointed Stéphane Le Guevel as Managing Director of Polestar France. Le Guevel was previously Polestar Country Manager for Portugal and Spain. “After three exciting years on the Iberian Peninsula, I am extremely honored to launch Polestar in the French market at such a strategic moment for the brand’s international expansion,” Stéphane Le Guevel is quoted as saying in an accompanying press release. “We are eager to introduce French customers to the excellence of our models and assist them in their transition to electric and responsible driving.”

Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, adds: “Stéphane Le Guevel is an experienced and passionate leader with a great local network in France. This will help him to drive Polestar’s expansion inone of the biggest EV markets in the world.”

France will be Polestar’s 27th market – and a hard-won one: in 2020, PSA (now Stellantis) temporarily halted Polestar’s market launch in France with a lawsuit. Reason: The logo of the Swedish-Chinese electric car brand was too similar to those of Citroën and DS. The legal dispute was only settled in autumn 2022.

Well, French people are mostly looking for small cars, they can't afford big EVs, and they are attached to their home brands, Renault and ex-PSA. So I don't expect a large success for Polestar in France
