SAIC & Huawei announce smart EV development cooperation
The two partners signed a strategic cooperation, which will focus on the fields of product definition, production and manufacturing, supply chain management, sales services, and more areas to build new and intelligent new energy vehicles (NEV), and jointly bring users a leading intelligent travel experience.
This confirms earlier rumours that the large Shanghai-based car manufacturer SAIC Motor wants to secure Huawei’s smart car expertise. The latter group has already co-developed a number of electric vehicles in China as a cooperation partner, such as the Luxeed and Avatr electric vehicles. SAIC also recognises this: Huawei, together with its partners, has launched a number of excellent smart car products in recent years, which have been well received by the market, SAIC praised in a statement.
Through their strategic cooperation, SAIC and Huawei now also want to combine their strengths – especially with a view to the Chinese market, which is likely to become increasingly consolidated. However, they also want to build globally competitive smart cars, they say. According to those responsible, the teams from both sides will “work closely together and explore new paths for innovations in smart car technology and business models.”
