Arnold Clark launches UK fast charging network

The British car dealer Arnold Clark has announced it is investing €35m (£30m) in rapid chargers across England and Scotland, with 240 charge points already installed. It now says it plans to install 500 EV chargers at over 100 locations in the UK.

Each charging station will feature as many as eight fast chargers with up to 150kW capacity. Founded in Glasgow, Scotland, Arnold Clark sells more than 300,000 cars per year from 200 dealerships across the UK, and it’s at these dealerships that the chargers will be installed.

The Arnold Clark Charge network will be bookable via the Arnold Clark app, with an ultra-fast charging rate of 55p/kWh. The company has also promised 24/7 opening hours at ‘most sites’.

Arnold Clark CEO and managing director Eddie Hawthorne said: “As electric vehicles become more and more common on UK roads, we know that our charging infrastructure needs to develop and grow to meet these increasing demands. That’s why we’ve heavily invested in our very own bookable ultra-rapid charging network across the country.”

The project follows a previous collaboration between Arnold Clark and Kempower to install 150kW ‘Satellite’ charge points across the UK. This saw eight chargers being installed at larger dealerships, while smaller locations featured between two and six charging points – which could give some indication on how the company plans to distribute its next round of chargers. However, there has been no confirmation as to whether Arnold Clark’s new chargers will also be provided by Kempower.
