Chartered Speed won a contract from Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a green energy-focused subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), which is a joint venture of public sector undertakings. It will procure, operate, and maintain at least 20% of the 4,588 electric buses CESL has tendered under the second phase of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)’s PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme.

The 900+ electric buses will allow Chartered Speed to transport over  290,000 passengers daily and create more than 2,000 job opportunities. The Ahmedabad (Gujarat)-based Indian bus operator plans to deploy the electric buses in Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bilaspur, Durg-Bhilai, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Korba, Kota, Raipur, Shillong, and Udaipur.

Chartered Speed has not revealed the value of the order for the over 900 electric buses, their specifications, or the deployment timeline. At present, the company runs over 1,800 buses across Gujarat, its home state, as well as Madhya Pradesh in central India and Odisha and Assam in the east.

“Through our participation in the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Sewa Scheme, we are transitioning from a traditional engine vehicle to a cutting-edge fleet of electric buses, revolutionizing urban mobility with cleaner, more sustainable solutions,” Chartered Speed’s Whole-Time Director Sanyam Gandhi said. “Our goal is to lead the shift toward a low-carbon future, reducing emissions and providing millions of commuters with greener travel options,” he added.

Last month, JBM Ecolife Mobility, a subsidiary of JBM Auto, secured a tender of 1,021 electric buses under the second phase of the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. The company stated 55 billion Indian rupees (approx. 587 million euros) as the approximate value of this order.
