Solaris to deliver electric trolleybuses to Sarajevo
Solaris says that it signed a contract with the Ministry of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton, after winning a tender which was in part financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The manufacturer does not communicate the value of the order.
The trolleybus Trollino 18 measures 18 metres in length and connects to an overhead catenary system to travel 100 per cent electric. It can also go up to 20 kilometres without connecting to the wires, as Solaris specifies.
The Polish bus manufacturer offers a total of three low-floor trolleybuses under the Trollino model series – the Trollino 12, Trollino 18 and Trollino 24. Its trolleybuses are especially popular in Europe, where the company held a 60 per cent market share last year, having delivered nearly 2,500 of these vehicles to 70 European cities.
With this new order, Solaris now has vehicles on the roads of 36 countries. At the end of 2024, Solaris signed a deal for 18 trolleybuses of the type Trollino 12 with Polish public transport operator TLT Tychy. It also just recently delivered its first electric buses, in this case also the Trollino 12, to Canada. Solaris says that its largest single order completed so far was the delivery of 100 Trollino 12 to Bucharest last year.
