Daimler Truck customers can offer chargers to third parties

Under its brand TruckCharge, Daimler Truck wants to make company-owned charging facilities available for public use. The offer is supposed to close the gap in charging infrastructure for electric trucks, making it Europe's largest semi-public charging network for electric trucks.

“With our TruckCharge concept for semi-public charging, we are aiming to close a large gap in the charging infrastructure for trucks,” says Martin Hink, Head of eMobility / H2 Business Solutions Mercedes-Benz Trucks. He adds that with the manufacturer’s “more than 1,000 dealers in Europe alone,” it is in a good position to set up a semi-public charging network.

Daimler Truck will also encourage its customers to open up its charging infrastructure to other operators. As Hink explains, the TruckCharge scheme will help the former to finance charging infrastructure at its depots. And by providing a tighter network of places to plug in an electric truck, Daimler Truck hopes to encourage other companies to electrify their fleets.

Daimler Truck will also offer planning, as well as reserving a charger and paying for the session. Customers can continue to use the Mercedes ServiceCard to charge. It offers access to the charging network UTA Edenred in 28 European countries and is already available for customers in Germany, Austria, and France. It will be extended to other markets this year.

And: “Fleet operators, who use the charging options, benefit from a cost advantage compared to public charging facilities, a larger network is available to them, and they can reserve charging stations in advance,” Daimler Truck specifies in its press release.

The TruckCharge is supposed to be an addition to the truck charging network set up by Milence. The latter is a joint venture founded in 2022 by the Volvo Group, Traton, and Daimler Truck. It wants to set up at least 1,700 high-performance charging points across Europe by 2027.

Daimler Truck set up its charging solutions subsidiary TruckCharge in June 2024. It bundles existing and future offerings related to EV infrastructure and electric truck charging, including consulting, hardware, and digital services. The service is part of Daimler Truck’s comprehensive ecosystem to improve the total cost of ownership of electric trucks.
