India: ChargET opens charging hub for up to 60 EVs
ChargET has built the new charging hub inside the head office of India Power Corporation, a power utility company, in Salt Lake City’s Sector V, a corporate hub in Kolkata. The company offers 54 AC charging points with Type 2 connectors and six DC charging points with CCS connectors at the new facility, founder and director Manya Kanoria said in a conversation with electrive.
The AC chargers at ChargET’s new charging hub allow customers to charge their EVs at 7.2 kW. The company has installed two types of dual-gun DC chargers, one with a peak output of 60 kW and two with a maximum power of 30 kW.
Speaking further, Kanoria revealed that ChargET only uses locally manufactured chargers, supporting the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The company sourced all the AC chargers from Pune (Maharashtra)-based BrightBlu, the 30 kW DC chargers from New Delhi-based Okaya EV Chargers, and the 60 kW DC charger from Siemens.
ChargET currently depends entirely on the local power grid for the new charging hub. However, it will partially transition to clean and renewable energy soon. In six months, the company plans to install solar panels that generate 60 kW, and it may expand the capacity later, Kanoria said. It estimates the solar power integration will reduce 694 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually in the first phase.
In addition to the new EV chargers at the India Power Corporation headquarters, ChargET operates more than 70 EV chargers, spread across West Bengal, Tripura, and other eastern states. Kanoria said the company is considering expanding its footprint to northern and southern parts of the country, adding key cities like New Delhi, Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Chennai (Tamil Nadu) to the list. ChargET has set an ambitious long-term goal of building a network of 10,000 EV chargers by 2030.
