Mercedes expands eActros 600 line-up and phases out eActros 300/400
Mercedes-Benz Trucks is set to make its battery-electric long-haul flagship, the eActros 600, more versatile by adding several new variants to the range. These include tractor units and flatbed chassis with additional wheelbase options, as well as configurations equipped with just two battery packs instead of the standard three. The current eActros 600 has three 207 kWh LFP battery packs as standard. Offering fewer packs aims to address different use cases more flexibly. The company will also offer more cab and roof variants going forward.
All versions of the eActros 600 share a common technology platform, featuring lithium iron phosphate batteries, 800-volt architecture, a newly developed e-axle, and the Interactive 2 multimedia cockpit. “The first new models will be available to order from autumn and will partly roll off the assembly line at the Wörth am Rhein plant in 2025,” the German manufacturer states. At the same time, Mercedes confirms it will discontinue production of the eActros 300/400 by year-end. Notably, the eEconic will remain in production.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks entered the electric truck market in 2021 with the launch of the eActros 300/400 for distribution services, followed by the municipal-focused eEconic in 2022. Both EVs are based on the same platform. The eActros 600 debuted at the end of 2024, introducing an all-new technology base. With the phase-out of the 300/400 models, Mercedes is shifting fully to LFP battery chemistry. The outgoing models used NMC battery packs – three (315 kWh) in the 300, four (420 kWh) in the 400 – while the LFP chemistry used in the eActros 600 enables over 95 per cent usable capacity, according to the manufacturer.
The production setup in Wörth differs significantly between generations: the eActros 300/400 is assembled on the same line as combustion trucks, but requires relocation for the EV component installation. By contrast, the eActros 600 is the first electric truck to be fully assembled on a single line alongside diesel variants, following major investment in production flexibility.
From the end of 2025, new derivatives of the eActros 600 will emerge from Wörth, including versions with two battery packs, which could effectively replace the 300/400 in the distribution segment. These models would deliver around 414 kWh – comparable to the 420 kWh of the eActros 400.
Looking ahead, a small series of the new eArocs 400, presented at Bauma 2025, is set to follow in 2026. Designed for urban construction applications, it will adopt key components from the eActros 600, including the front battery box and two LFP battery packs.
Achim Puchert, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, commented: “Our goal is to drive the industry’s decarbonization at high speed by electrifying more and more transport applications. The areas of application and thus the needs of our customers for battery-electric trucks are very diverse, especially with regard to payload and range. With the new variants, which will build on the strengths of the eActros 600, we want to offer our customers the best from the Mercedes-Benz Trucks modular system and support them in managing their transport solutions with battery-electricity and economically.”
