Spedition W&P adds 20 electric trucks to fleet

The Bavarian logistics company W&P has just expanded its commercial fleet with 20 new Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks. These join three eActros 300s and around 40 additional diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz trucks on the W&P fleet.

W&P has said that it chose the eActros 600 primarily because of its 500km range without the need for intermediate charging. This range is delivered thanks to a battery capacity of 621kWh across three battery packs and an electric drive axle. The trucks were delivered to W&P as part of an opening ceremony at the charging park.

Alexander Wehr, Managing Director of W&P, commented: “The eActros 600 impressed us from the very first moment – not only with its impressive range and efficiency, but also with the holistic concept that Mercedes-Benz Trucks offers around electromobility. As a freight forwarded with a focus on sustainable logistics in the recycling industry and the premium textile sector, it was clear to us: the future is electric.”

Christian Wilz, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-Benz Trucks & FUSO Germany, added: “We are particularly pleased that Spedition W&P is continuing the partnership with our company and has decided on a total of 20 new eActros 600. Together with the opening of its own state-of-the-art charging park, the transport company marks an important milestone for locally C02-free road freight transport in the region, for which we congratulate you.”

W&P, which is based in Prichsenstadt in Bavaria, has not only added the new trucks to its fleet but also constructed a truck charging park on its company premises. The charging park is equipped with 56 DC rapid charging points, powered by a photovoltaic solar array and a 15,000kWh battery storage system. It’s also kitted out with toilets, showers, and waiting rooms for drivers to use while charging. With a Europe-wide shortage of charging points for commercial HGVs, the charging park will be pivotal in supporting the operations of the vehicles by W&P.

Daimler Trucks is currently planning a major ramp-up of its European truck charging network, with plans to grow this up to 3000 fast charging points by 2030. The company’s brand TruckCharge will play a key role in this, offering a semi-public option for electric trucks which enables depots to open their charging infrastructure for third party paid use. It’s unclear whether W&P’s new charging park will be part of this.
