Opel presents off-road Frontera
The new Frontera was presented by Opel a year ago and is the successor to the Crossland. While the Crossland was still a crossover between a van and an SUV, the body of the new Frontera is more orientated towards its namesake from the 1990s, when there was already an Opel with this sales designation. The new Frontera is therefore a genuine SUV and is available with either electric drive or as a hybrid.
To attract more attention to the new model, Opel is using the XS Carnight tuning event in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee in Austria on 30 May 2025 to present an unusual new variant – albeit only as a show car. In other words, the vehicle was specially designed for this event. But the prospect of it going into series production is probably slim.
We are talking about the Opel Frontera Gravel, which is supposed to be “rougher, tougher, made for life beyond the asphalt,” as Opel describes the show car. It was designed by Opel in Rüsselsheim and built in cooperation with motorsport tuning partners BlackFish and XS.
“The new Opel Frontera is already standout. It is rugged, practical, and perfect for families and everyday adventures. But with the Frontera GRAVEL show car, we’ve pushed the limits, imagining a tougher, more daring, trailblazing version. This concept is built to fire up our fanbase and test the demand for a bolder, more rugged Frontera in the future. It’s all about freedom, adventure, excitement and pushing boundaries,” said Opel Marketing Director Rebecca Reinermann.

The body design is intended to “evoke a sense of adventure and exploration.” The matt black roof and the matt black bonnet contrast with the ‘Desert Stone’ foiling specially selected for the Frontera Gravel. Additional orange-coloured accents are provided by the exterior mirror housings, front and rear bumpers, the rear spoiler and the orange Opel flash in the black Opel Vizor.
The rugged look is emphasised by a winch and a hook at the front, side storage boxes at the rear and the robust, grid-shaped roof rack, which further increases transport capacity on all adventure trips. Extra headlights are mounted on the roof rack and on the bonnet for night-time driving through rough terrain.
