Antonio Filosa becomes new Stellantis CEO

Around six months after parting ways with Carlos Tavares, Stellantis has found a new CEO. And he comes from within the company: Antonio Filosa currently works for Stellantis as Chief Operating Officer for North and South America and Chief Quality Officer.

Filosa is to take over as CEO on 23 June, Stellantis announced. Filosa was unanimously elected as the new Chief Executive Officer by the Board of Directors “after a thorough selection process with internal and external candidates.” Following the premature departure of the only Stellantis CEO to date, Carlos Tavares, a special committee of the Board led by Chairman John Elkann initiated the search for a successor.

Filosa was selected as CEO “based on his proven track record of over 25 years in the automotive industry, his deep and extensive global experience, his unrivalled knowledge of the business and his recognised leadership qualities,” according to the company. Stellantis states that as Chief Operating Officer for South America, Filosa led the Fiat brand there “to market leadership” and also “significantly grew the Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, and Jeep brands.” As CEO of Jeep, he also expanded the brand’s global presence, including in Europe.

Filosa was promoted in December 2024 when he was appointed Chief Operating Officer for the Americas, with responsibility for the Quality division added in February 2025. He will then take over as Chief Executive Officer on 23 June and will also introduce the new Stellantis management team. It is not yet known which positions will be affected. The only thing that is clear so far is that John Elkann will continue in his role as Executive Chairman. The Chairman of the Board of Directors (also known as Chairman) is roughly equivalent to the Chairman of a Supervisory Board in Germany, but as Executive Chairman he has additional powers and responsibilities in the operational business that go beyond supervision and control.

“Antonio’s deep understanding of our Company, including its people who he views as our core strength, and of our industry equip him perfectly for the role of Chief Executive Officer in this next and crucial phase of Stellantis’ development,” says Elkann. “II have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months during which time his responsibilities have increased, and his strong and effective leadership spanning both North and South America at a moment of unprecedented challenge have confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. Together with the entire Board, I look forward to working with him.”

Filosa itself thanks the Board for its trust. “We have the world’s best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success,” said the future Stellantis CEO.

It is not yet clear from the announcement who will take over Filosa’s current position. This will presumably follow on 23 June, when the new CEO will present his management team.
