Specifically, the order relates to a mid-six-figure quantity of the CWA 2000 high-voltage coolant pump for use in the manufacturer’s battery-electric medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Rheinmetall will supply the customer starting from 2028, and the contract currently continues to 2035.

According to Rheinmetall, the choice for the system was made due to its technical characteristics. As Rheinmetall writes, “The CWA 2000 is a versatile solution for a wide range of cooling specifications.” This applies to both battery-electric as well as fuel-cell technologies. With a long life-cycle, and being designed for the HV3b voltage level, allows for the CWA 2000 to reach an operating voltage of up to 850 Volts.

Rheinmetall further elaborates: “It is available with either an active or passive high-voltage interlock loop, which keeps the battery system ready for operation as long as the loop is closed. If the loop is interrupted, this system protects all persons who could come into contact with high-voltage components during the life cycle of an electric vehicle by switching off the power.”

The German industrial giant last presented a modular EV heat pump in the summer of 2023, just a few months after announcing the first customer for its joint venture with Polycharge.
