It marks the culmination of years of effort by Polestar to break into the French market. Despite hoping to market vehicles in France a number of years ago, Polestar faced a trademark dispute with Stellantis (formerly PSA Group), which filed a legal case against the Polestar logo in 2020 on the grounds that it allegedly bore too much of a resemblance to the logos of Citroën and DS. Once this dispute was settled in the autumn of 2022, Polestar was finally able to take steps towards launching in France.

What this means is that Polestar now has access to one of Europe’s fastest-growing markets for EVs, and is also represented in a total of 28 markets on four continents. CEO Michael Lohscheller described it as a significant milestone, saying: “We are very excited to bring our portfolio of performance EVs to France, one of Europe’s fastest growing EV markets. Our cars are already receiving fantastic media reviews in France, and we look forward to seeing more and more Polestars on French roads during the second half of the year.”

Polestar’s activity in France will include direct-to-consumer sales via its website as well as via partner retail outlets provided in cooperation with partners from the Volvo Cars network, which is also part of the Geely Group. Polestar first announced this sales cooperation with Volvo back in February. A number of showrooms are currently under construction, with the first French showroom set to open in July 2025 in the motorsports city of Le Mans. As many as ten more showrooms are set to follow in other French cities during the second half of the year. In the meantime, more than 100 service centres are now available to customers across France.

Stephane Le Guevel, Managing Director of Polestar France, commented: “We have an ambitious expansion plan in France, with an ambition to open up to ten sales points already in 2025 and accelerate even further in 2026. The Polestar brand is a perfect fit for France with a strong focus on performance, design and sustainability.”
