Eaton and AMP IT launch ‘Charging-as-a-Service’ in Switzerland
Specifically, ‘Charging-as-a-Service’ integrates photovoltaic power, energy storage, and smart load management into a single system that can operate without significant upfront investment. The aim is to increase the use of locally generated solar power for EV charging by up to 30 per cent.
The project has been recognised by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy as part of its RechargeAuPoint funding programme. It targets owners of multi-dwelling units, as well as office, industrial and logistics buildings, who require scalable charging infrastructure without the associated operational or technical complexity.
At the core of the concept is Eaton’s ‘Buildings as a Grid’ approach, which positions buildings as active participants in an intelligent microgrid. In combination with AMP IT’s software, energy flows can be optimised, self-consumption rates increased, and pressure on the public grid reduced. It is expected to lower energy costs and improve grid stability.
AMP IT brings an established network of partners to the initiative, including property funds, energy suppliers, construction firms and academic institutions. The goal is to create a sustainable ecosystem that positions electric vehicles as a key element in decentralised energy management.
“We trust that this programme will bring significant contributions to e-mobility with smarter EV charging solutions making better use of locally produced renewable energies, enhanced energy self-consumption schemes, and cost-effective battery storage solutions, in various use cases,” said Ilya Tyuvildin, AMP IT co-founder.
Eaton’s Andreea Laplace added: “Decentralised energy production and management is essential to meet growing global energy demands, and this project shows how collaboration and technology developments such as our Buildings-as-a-Grid approach will make the energy transition sustainable and profitable for everyone involved.”
The Swiss charging market could soon gain momentum. This week, the upper chamber of the Swiss Federal Assembly backed a National Council proposal guaranteeing tenants and owners in multi-unit dwellings the right to install EV charging stations. The decision obliges the federal government to create a legal framework to support the rollout of residential charging infrastructure.
Over the longer term, Eaton and AMP IT plan to expand the business model across other parts of Europe, as well as into the Middle East and Africa. The move is expected to support not only electric mobility but also the transformation of urban energy infrastructure.
