MAN offers portable battery for electric truck and bus charging
MAN Truck & Bus now offers customers the Smart Charging Cube, a portable charging and storage system developed with AW Automotive. The system requires no earthworks and minimal power connection. “Depending on local conditions, it can be connected to the mains with a current of 32 A to 630 A,” MAN states.
MAN emphasises that the Cube can be deployed both at depots and in decentralised locations such as construction sites or remote service areas. The Cube’s battery storage ranges from 500 kWh to 1,100 kWh. It supports one to four charging points per unit with a combined charging capacity of up to 400 kW. As a standalone battery storage, it can also supply external MCS charging stations, enabling charging capacities of up to 1,000 kW.
Moreover, the new battery and charging solution can integrate locally generated electricity, such as from photovoltaic systems. It also supports peak shaving, dynamic power consumption and bidirectional charging functions. According to MAN, these features allow fleet operators to optimise their energy management and reduce operating costs.
The Smart Charging Cube is available to MAN customers for purchase, lease or rental. MAN sees the solution as a contribution to rapid electrification of commercial fleets, particularly where infrastructure is a limiting factor.
