Slovenia introduces new EV subsidy scheme
Slovenia specifically subsidises the purchase of a new electric vehicle in the M1, N1, L7e, L6e, L5e, L4e, L3e, L2e and L1e-B categories. The range extends from cars (M1) and vans (N1) through light vehicles and motorbikes down to mopeds, however, the subsidy only applies to fully electric vehicles. Furthermore, the purchase of a used electric car or electric transporter is also subsidised.
A total of 9.2 million euros is available under the new funding programme. This is divided into a budget of 5.2 million euros for subsidising the purchase of vehicles by natural persons and 4 million euros for legal entities, sole traders and natural persons with a commercial activity.
There are a total of eleven different subsidy levels, as the following table shows. All purchase values listed in the right-hand column include VAT.

It is notable that the purchase of very expensive vehicles is not possible. The subsidy limit for typical electric cars (class M1) is 45,000 euros including VAT. For electric vans (class N1), the limit is 65,000 euros. In addition, low-cost models are subsidised slightly more than medium-cost models: the maximum subsidy of €7,200 is only available for M1 class cars costing a maximum of €35,000. For electric cars costing between 35,000.01 and 45,000 euros, on the other hand, only 6,500 euros are available.
Applications for the purchase premium can be submitted by natural persons from 2 September. All other beneficiaries must wait until 7 October. Applications can also be submitted retroactively for vehicles purchased since 1 January 2025.
Slovenia has repeatedly offered purchase premiums for electric cars in recent years. The new tender is very similar to a tender from August 2024, in which the thresholds for funding and purchase premiums were increased compared to previous tenders.
