Huawei and SAIC launch pre-sales of Shangjie H5

Huawei and SAIC have begun pre-sales of their first jointly developed model, the Shangjie H5 SUV. Priced from 169,800 yuan (around 20,400 euros), the vehicle is positioned as the most affordable model under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). The official market launch is scheduled for 23 September.

According to the manufacturer, more than 25,000 pre-orders were placed within the first hour of availability. The H5 is built on SAIC’s Xingyun platform and developed from the Roewe ES39 model. It will be offered in two drivetrain configurations: battery-electric and extended-range electric.

The battery-electric version is available with two options. A 64.6 kWh pack provides a CLTC range of 535 kilometres, while an 80 kWh pack extends the range to 655 kilometres. The extended-range version integrates a 1.5-litre range-extending system and delivers up to 235 kilometres of electric driving and more than 1,300 kilometres of combined CLTC range.

The vehicle measures 4.78 metres in length, 1.91 metres in width, and 1.66 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 2.84 metres. At the rear, a full-width taillight bar incorporates the brand logo. All versions of the Shangjie H5 are equipped with Huawei’s ADS 4 advanced driver assistance system. The model features a 192-channel LiDAR sensor and 4D millimetre-wave radars, enabling assisted driving on highways, in urban traffic, and on rural roads.

SAIC and Huawei announced in February that they would cooperate on the development of electric cars and plug-in-hybrids. At the time, the two partners signed a strategic cooperation, which will focus on the fields of product definition, production and manufacturing, supply chain management, sales services, and more areas to build new and intelligent new energy vehicles.

The Shangjie H5 is the fifth brand within Huawei’s HIMA framework, joining Aito (Seres), Luxeed (Chery), Stelato (BAIC), and Maextro (JAC). Together, the company currently offers eight models.
