Gebrüder Weiss adds 14 electric trucks to its fleet in Austria

Logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss is expanding its electric truck fleet in Austria. Two new Mercedes eActros 600 trucks are now in service at the company's headquarters in Lauterach, transporting general cargo. By the end of 2025, 14 new electric trucks are expected to be in service.

Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG is based in Lauterach in the western province of Vorarlberg and, with around 8,600 employees worldwide and 180 company-owned locations, is one of the major players in the industry. In addition to transport and logistics solutions, the company also offers digital services and supply chain management. In its home market of Austria, Gebrüder Weiss is now venturing into the electrification of its first truck routes. Two eActros 600 trucks have been in use at the company’s Wels site in Upper Austria since the summer. Two more are now being added in Lauterach.

By the end of 2025, the logistics company’s electric fleet in Austria is set to grow by a total of 14 electric trucks – five of which will be in Lauterach alone. The company also plans to purchase additional electric trucks and vans for home delivery in 2026. Among other things, the company envisions a ‘GreenLine’ with its electric trucks. This is the name Gebrüder Weiss has given to a project aimed at decarbonising heavy goods transport for groupage freight. As part of the project, twelve heavy-duty eActros 600 electric trucks are to be deployed daily on fixed routes throughout Austria.

The logistics service provider emphasises that these trucks can be recharged quickly (‘at the company’s own fast chargers in 30 to 90 minutes’) and can transport 22 tonnes of payload. ‘To enable rapid charging and thus efficient use,’ Gebrüder Weiss is installing charging stations at various branches, including in Vienna, Hall in Tirol, Altenrhein (Switzerland) and Aldingen (Germany). ‘The electricity comes from the company’s own photovoltaic systems and from green electricity,’ the company specifies. At the headquarters in Lauterach alone, two transformer stations, each with 1,600 kVA, will supply up to 16 fast charging points, eight of which are currently active.

With its private charging network at its own depots, Gebrüder Weiss wants to become independent of external charging stations. In addition, time is to be saved by dispatching trucks and charging them with electricity at the same time. “Our customers expect reliability and on-time delivery even with zero-emission transports,” commented Stefan Oberhauser, Branch Manager Land & Logistics Vorarlberg at Gebrüder Weiss. “With our dedicated energy supply and the latest vehicle solutions, we can deliver sustainable road transport at scale.”
