India: ThunderPlus opens a mega charging hub near Bengaluru airport
ThunderPlus has set up the new charging hub over a 28,000 sq. ft. area in Mutthugadahalli, just a few kilometres from KIA on the outskirts of Bengaluru. It has installed one megawatt capacity and offers multiple charging options, ranging from 7.4 kW AC chargers to 240 kW DC chargers, making the facility suitable for both entry-level and premium electric cars as well as light and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Given the expansive space and diverse charging solutions of the new charging hub near KIA, the company is targeting individual EV users as well as fleet operators, long-haul bus service providers, and cargo transporters. The new facility can charge more than 100 cars and over 10 buses at once.
ThunderPlus earlier set up a one megawatt charging hub in Hyderabad (Telangana), and following the new outlet near the Bengaluru airport, it plans to establish a similar facility in Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh). Commenting on the inauguration of the new charging hub near KIA, ThunderPlus CEO Rajeev YSR said, “With hubs like Bangalore, Hyderabad, and soon Kurnool, we are creating a future-ready charging ecosystem that caters not just to cars, but also to buses, trucks, and high- capacity EVs.”
The Indian charge point operator mainly operates in southern states, covering Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Elsewhere, it runs charging stations in Gujarat in the west and Bihar and the national capital Delhi in the north. It has deployed more than 5,000 AC and DC chargers across India.
ThunderPlus aims to build a nationwide grid of 1 MW+ charging stations offering chargers with high outputs ranging from 240 kW to 320 kW. “Our mission is to electrify all major Indian highways with MegaWatt-class ultra fast charging infrastructure,” YSR said. “We have already electrified the Hyderabad–Vijayawada corridor and will soon begin work on the Vijayawada Visakhapatnam stretch, further strengthening India’s EV highway network,” he added.
