FedEx adds 41 electric delivery vans to its fleet in Malaysia
The company is replacing 41 diesel-powered Toyota Hiace vans in its fleet with the Maxus e-Deliver 3. It plans to use the new electric vans for parcel pickup and delivery services in major cities like Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Penang, and the Klang Valley.
Maxus offers the e-Deliver 3 van in standard body and long body versions, and FedEx appears to have procured the former. All 41 units offer a payload capacity of 920 kg, but images suggest that some of their other specifications vary. Some units mention 2,450 kg and 1,530 kg as the gross and kerb weights, respectively, while others state the same as 2,650 kg and 1,730 kg, respectively.
The company says the new electric model in its delivery fleet returns an estimated range of up to 228 km. FedEx began using EVs in Malaysia in May 2023, starting with two vans for parcel pick-up and delivery operations in the Klang Valley. Last year, it became the first company to deliver a package on a Malaysia-Singapore route using an EV, Maxus’s eDeliver 7. It started at a base in Shah Alam, and after taking a charging break in Johor, it completed the journey at Changi Airport, covering a distance of 406 km.
“The successful cross-border EV delivery between Malaysia and Singapore last year reinforced our confidence in the role electric vehicles can play in logistics,” said FedEx (Malaysia) Managing Director Tien Long Woon. “This latest EV fleet expansion is a meaningful step forward in embedding sustainability into our day-to-day operations,” he added.
FedEx is building its own charging infrastructure to support its growing EV fleet. Earlier this year, it installed 41 AC and DC charging stations at strategic locations across Malaysia. Globally, the company operates more than 8,000 electric vehicles.
