The two French companies are utilising Valeo’s experience in electronic battery repair, and VoltR’s expertise in battery reconditioning and cell pack manufacturing, to enable what they say will be material savings of “at least 95 per cent.

With the boom of micromobility electric vehicles in Europe, which includes electric bicycles, scooters and other light vehicles, the two French companies see an important market in offering battery repair and remanufacturing to optimise battery material use and keep critical raw materials in circular use.

The offer being developed by the two companies targets fleet managers, vehicle manufacturers, repair networks and battery producers. The process first determines whether used batteries can be repaired. If the batteries need to be replaced, VoltR provides “remanufactured energy packs with a compatible cell reference to ensure the maintenance of initial certifications and pack performances.” Valeo and VoltR then provide a structured, local warranty and after-sales service for reconditioned energy packs

Isabelle d’Ambrosio-Pierre, Valeo Service OES & Smart Mobility Vice President: “By combining the strengths of Valeo and VoltR, we provide a concrete response to the three essential challenges of environmentally-friendly battery management, more economical mobility for all, and a reliable source for access to repair components. This battery repair solution is not only innovative but also essential for the development of less carbon-intensive urban mobility.”

Valeo is involved in numerous different aspects of the electric vehicle industry. This includes numerous collaborations, such as with PanGood to develop an Axial Flux Generator, or using Rohm SiC modules for electric drives, or cooperating on electric motor development with Mahle.

“At VoltR, our mission is to minimise the environmental impact of batteries by maximising their lifespan through battery remanufacturing,” adds Maxime Bleskine, General Manager of VoltR. “Partnering with a technology leader like Valeo allows us to industrialise our approach and scale our offering across Europe. Together, we will create a unique value proposition that combines technical performance and environmental commitment for our customers.”
