Warsaw expands electric bus fleet
As one of Warsaw’s key public transport operators, Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe (MZA) runs a number of bus routes across the city and surrounding areas. MZA has consistently been expanding its fleet over the last 10 years, predominantly through a partnership with Solaris; the bus maker has delivered over 1,350 buses to MZA, with 163 of these so far being electric.
It’s only very recently that MZA ordered another 79 electric buses from Solaris; in that case, the order covered 50 articulated Urbino 18 articulated e-buses and 29 Urbino 12 standard buses, all set for delivery in H2 of 2026. Both the standard and articulated buses will be equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries; 500kWh+ for the 12-meter models and over 700 kWHh for the articulated buses.
Back in September, Jan Kuźmiński, CEO of Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe (MZA), said: “Thanks to the purchase of 79 brand-new Solaris buses, Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe will significantly expand its fleet of electric buses. However, this is only part of our ongoing investments in zero-emission vehicles – ultimately, as many as 258 electric buses may arrive within the next several months.” It seems this ongoing investment has come to pass with the fresh order of 50 Urbino 18s.
