Volkswagen UK extends return window for ID range

VW UK is introducing the 'ID Promise' scheme which gives retail EV customers between 80 and 100 days after vehicle delivery to return their vehicle. The offer began on November 3 and expires on 31 March 2026.

Volkswagen says the ‘promise’ is designed to offer “complete peace of mind for anyone uncertain about switching to electric”. The UK division of VW said: “It means people can return their cars if for any reason they change their minds or find an electric vehicle (EV) that doesn’t suit their lifestyle needs”.

The return scheme applies to any retail customer that purchases a new VW ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 or ID.7 Tourer, whether they pay in cash or use a personal contract plan (PCP). All they have to do is inform the retailer within the 80 to 100 days window. The retailer will then arrange a refund – minus a three per cent fixed usage charge and any associated repair or refurbishment costs. The offer does not apply to contract hire, fleet, ex-demonstration purchases or motability.

The move seems to be designed to sway those unsure about going fully electric, although VW UK doesn’t seem nervous about adoption – citing an Autotrader report claiming four in five EV buyers will ‘likely’ purchase another EV for their next car.

Rod McLeod, Volkswagen UK’s director, said: “Official figures show more than 1.3 million UK motorists have already converted to electric, and time and time again our customers tell us they would never go back to petrol or diesel having made the move. But there are many more people who want to go electric but feel unsure. This straightforward initiative gives them the perfect opportunity to ‘drive and decide’ with no strings attached.”
