Karsan delivers 17 electric buses to Mersin

Karsan has delivered 17 of its 12-metre e-ATA electric buses to the Turkish city of Mersin. The project is part of a collaboration between the city administration and the European Union under the IPA II program.

Located on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, Mersin is home to over one million residents. As part of the IPA II programme, the city administration recently tendered 17 electric buses—a contract awarded to Karsan. The Turkish manufacturer has now announced the completion of the project: all 17 e-ATA battery-electric buses have been delivered to Mersin. This model is the 12-metre solo bus from Karsan’s electric range.

The buses supplied to Mersin were “specially optimised considering the city’s climate, route structure, and operational conditions,” according to Karsan. Each vehicle features a 396 kWh battery capacity and a maximum power output of 250 kW. Karsan also specifies a charging time of “approximately 2.5 to 3 hours,” a range of up to 400 kilometres, and seating for 70 passengers.

Additionally, Karsan highlights that its “e-ATA model delivers high performance even on steep routes with its motor producing a maximum power of 250 kW and 22,000 Nm of torque. Offering an accessible interior thanks to its fully low-floor design, the e-ATA is ushering in a new era of public transportation in Mersin with its comfortable, quiet, and eco-friendly travel experience.”
