Kenworth and Peterbilt have announced extensive additions to their battery-electric portfolios, introducing new medium-duty models based on PACCAR’s integrated ePowertrain platform. Kenworth has launched the T280E, T380E and T480E as its first conventional medium-duty BEVs for the North American market. Orders are now open in the US and Canada, with production set to begin in 2026.

The trucks offer eMotor ratings from 170 kW up to 350 kW, with peak torque of 1,100 or 1,850 lb-ft. Two battery configurations provide 250 kWh for ranges of up to 200 miles or 375 kWh for up to 280 miles, depending on model. All vehicles support DC charging at up to 350 kW, enabling charge times of around one hour. The T280E, a Class 6 truck with a 26,000 lb GVWR, delivers up to 200 miles for urban and local distribution. The T380E, available as a truck or tractor in Class 7/8 ratings, offers up to 280 miles of range, while the Class 8 T480E provides up to 200 miles for heavier-duty applications, including drayage and vocational work.

PACCAR’s central-drive eMotor allows flexible wheelbases, lift axle installations and vocational integrations. The trucks include high-voltage ePTO ports for auxiliary equipment. Inside the cab, features include a 15-inch digital display, the Kenworth SmartWheel and EV-specific design elements.

“The launch of our new medium-duty battery-electric lineup demonstrates Kenworth’s dedication to helping customers transition to zero-emission transportation with practical, powerful, and flexible solutions,” said Kevin Haygood, Kenworth’s assistant general manager for sales and marketing. “With the addition of the T280E, T380E, and T480E, customers now have even more options to spec trucks that align with their business needs and sustainability goals.”

Peterbilt also expanded its zero-emission range with the launch of the medium-duty Models 536EV, 537EV and 548EV. The Class 6/7 536EV and 537EV address regional delivery, service and utility applications, while the Class 8 548EV supports 4×2 tractors and vocational bodies requiring PTO functions.

The trucks offer two battery capacities with ranges of up to 280 miles and support rapid charging at 350 kW, reaching 80 per cent charge in just over 80 minutes. ePTO options rated at 25 kW or 150 kW support utility and vocational equipment.

The Peterbilt models also use PACCAR’s ePowertrain, featuring a mid-ship mounted eMotor with dual motors and an integrated three-speed transmission. Power outputs reach up to 605 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, with LFP battery chemistry and selectable regenerative braking. The architecture supports 4×2 and 6×4 layouts and wheelbases of 163 inches or longer. Additional features include a 15-inch EV-specific digital display, SmartLINQ integration for energy and range data, configurable preconditioning and an electronic park brake system with rollaway mitigation.

“Optimised for the demands of the medium duty segment, the next generation of Peterbilt electric vehicles deliver excellent efficiency, rapid charging and versatile configurations elevating customer productivity across a wide range of applications,” said Erik Johnson, Peterbilt assistant general manager, Sales & Marketing. “The all-new Models 536EV, 537EV and 548EV offer zero-emissions technology to support ease and adaptability for customers focused on cleaner operations and leveraging the versatility, efficiency and comfort Peterbilt offers.”
