Tesla opens its first integrated facility in India
Tesla has opened its new outlet in India at Orchid Business Park on the Badhsahpur Sohna Road Highway. Isabel Fan, the company’s Senior Director for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Macau, and Sharad Agarwal, the newly appointed CEO of its local subsidiary, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited, inaugurated the new facility.
Indian real estate analytics firm CRE Matrix earlier reported that Tesla has leased the entire ground floor, spread across an area of 33,475 sq. ft., for a period of nine years. According to the lease agreement, Tesla will pay a monthly rent of 4.017 million rupees (approx. 38,500 euros), subject to an annual increment of 4.75 per cent. Orchid Business Park has also allotted 51 car parking slots to the company as part of this deal.
Besides the new Model Y, the only EV it offers in India, Tesla is showcasing the Optimus humanoid robot at its recently inaugurated showroom in Gurugram. The company has not stated any plans to release Optimus in India, but for other markets, it will commence mass production in 2026, co-founder and CEO Elon Musk said at the annual shareholder meeting earlier this month.
In addition to the new integrated facility in Gurugram, Tesla operates a showroom about 21 kilometres north in the national capital, Delhi, in the northern part of India. In the western part, the company operates a retail outlet in Mumbai (Maharashtra). It also accepts orders from states and union territories across India through its consumer website.
Tesla offers the Model Y in India in Standard Range RWD and Long Range RWD variants, priced at 5.989 million rupees (approx. 57,400 euros) and 6.789 million rupees (approx. 65,000 euros), respectively. The steep pricing has led to a lukewarm market response in the early phase. The company launched the mid-size EV in July and commenced deliveries in September. So far, it has managed to sell only 140 units, as per a recent report from The Economic Times.
