Nio brand Firefly expands its reach in Europe
Nio’s Firefly brand is expanding its presence in Europe: on 10 December, the company announced via its social media channels that it had begun deliveries of the new Firefly electric vehicle (EV) in Denmark and Greece. In Denmark, the manufacturer is pricing the compact EV from 209.900DKK (around €28,100), while in Greece, the starting price is €31,900.
In both markets, the vehicle is available only with a purchased battery, as Firefly’s Battery-as-a-Service offering is not yet available in Europe due to the lack of suitable battery swap stations. Firefly’s small electric cars use a 42.1 kWh battery, whereas Nio’s larger models in Europe are offered with 75 or 100 kWh batteries—these are also the capacities that the company’s existing Power Swap Stations are designed for. In China, the first stations have already been upgraded, and the vehicle has been available since late April.
The Firefly is a four-metre-long, fully electric compact car that achieves a WLTP range of 330 kilometres with its 42.1 kWh LFP battery. In the WLTP City cycle, the range extends to 470 kilometres. The battery can be charged at DC fast-charging stations at up to 100 kW, and a standard charging session from 10 to 80 percent is expected to take 29 minutes.
In Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands, the Firefly is priced from €29,990. Portugal is also set to join as another market soon, where the model can now be reserved and test-driven. Meanwhile, in Norway, list prices start at 279.900 NOK, equivalent to roughly €23,700 at current exchange rates. The car is cheaper in Norway not only due to local tax regulations but also because Norway is not part of the EU, which means it avoids additional import tariffs on electric vehicles built in China.
