The first 25 units of the E-Way Linium model are now in service on the electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines of the Stran bus network. These rapid transit lines often feature dedicated lanes in cities and, in some cases, traffic light sensors to detect and prioritise buses at intersections. A key feature of the new Iveco Bus models is their roof-mounted pantograph systems, which enable charging during operation at opportunity chargers located at terminal stops.

The Saint-Nazaire intercommunal association has stated that, as part of the Hélyce+ project, it upgraded its bus network this month. The upgrades include an expansion to 13 bus lines and increased service frequency. The network has also been electrified with the introduction of 25 new battery-electric buses. These vehicles are part of a joint offering from Iveco Bus and its two partners, ABB E-mobility and Dalkia Electrotechnics. Together, the trio supplies the battery-electric buses, charging infrastructure at the depot and terminal stops, and systems for controlling and monitoring the charging process.

Specifically, the partners were responsible for constructing five terminal stops and 40 overhead charging points for overnight charging at the bus depot. The components were supplied by ABB and installed by Dalkia Electrotechnics. The trio is also responsible for maintenance. Additionally, Iveco Bus has announced that an further 15 vehicles of the same type are expected to be delivered to the intercommunal association between 2027 and 2030.

“Ycéo and Hélyce are more than just a transport network; they represent a new way of designing public space in Saint-Nazaire and across the agglomeration, with more dedicated bus lanes, more cycle lanes, wider pavements and spaces redesigned for pedestrians,” says David Samzun, Mayor of Saint-Nazaire and President of the Saint-Nazaire Agglomeration. “This means concretely building a more united, inclusive and peaceful city. Complemented by 100% electric buses for better air quality and reduced noise, this more accessible network strengthens our region’s resilience to climate change, for the benefit of the health of our fellow citizens, passengers and residents.”

Giorgio Zino, Head of Iveco Bus’s European Business Unit, adds: “Offering a complete system means fully assuming the role of a true partner. We are proud to support the transformation of the public transport network in Saint-Nazaire towards mobility that is more sustainable, more innovative and more pleasant on a daily basis. By combining three areas of expertise, we are delivering a reliable, high-performance and quiet solution for the benefit of all.”
