Ikea to start using the eActros 600 in Italy

Together with its logistics partner LC3 Trasporti, furniture giant IKEA is launching an initiative for CO2-free road freight transport in Italy. By the third quarter of 2026, both partners aim to build a fleet of more than ten electric trucks of the eActros 600 model, two of which are already in operation.

This is not the first time LC3 Trasporti has been associated with the eActros 600. In May 2025, the logistics provider became the first customer in Italy to take delivery of the heavy-duty, long-haul battery-electric truck, specifically for operations on behalf of Lidl. At the time, it was announced that LC3 Trasporti had ordered a total of 30 units of the eActros 600, though it remained unclear whether all these vehicles were destined solely for Lidl or for other customers as well.

Now, LC3 Trasporti is set to deploy more than ten units of the eActros 600 for Ikea. Two of these battery-electric trucks are already in operation, with the remaining vehicles due to follow by the third quarter of 2026. The electric trucks are used daily for container transport to and from the ports of Genoa and La Spezia, as well as for deliveries to destinations such as the distribution centre in Piacenza. They also handle daily store deliveries across northern Italy from the same logistics hub.

“This is an ambitious project aimed at significantly reducing our transportation climate footprint in Italy,” says Ewelina Taylor, Global Transport Manager at Inter IKEA Group. “Thanks to this new triangle partnership we’re able to define the optimal set up together and come up with a solution that reduce the total costs, while also contributing to a cleaner and quieter environment, which is an essential part of our mission of creating a better everyday life.”

In future, the ten electric trucks are expected to cover over 1.2 million kilometres annually without producing CO₂ emissions, thereby avoiding the emissions that would otherwise be generated by diesel trucks. Beyond the environmental benefits, the eActros 600 trucks are also significantly quieter than their diesel counterparts, which is particularly advantageous for night-time deliveries in residential areas.

“This project marks a turning point for LC3 Trasporti. The energy transition is a challenge we have chosen to face with determination,” added Michele Ambrogi, Commercial Director of LC3 Trasporti. “The introduction of the eActros 600 in partnership with IKEA and Daimler Truck Italia demonstrates that collaboration across the supply chain is the only real driver of change. The time for isolated experiments is over – what we need now are scalable, concrete, zero-impact solutions.”

Maurizio Pompei, CEO of Daimler Truck Italia, states: “The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 is the result of years of development aimed at radically transforming road freight transport. Seeing it enter service in a project of this scale, alongside two forward-thinking companies such as LC3 and IKEA, confirms that the energy transition is already happening. This is a virtuous example of how technological innovation can seamlessly align with environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.”

With the eActros 600, Daimler Truck is accelerating its efforts in the battery-electric truck sector. It is the company’s first fully electric articulated truck designed for long-haul transport and has been in series production since November 2024. The model, which offers a range of up to 500 kilometres under ideal conditions thanks to its generously sized 621 kWh LFP battery, represents a milestone in the electrification of European road freight transport.
