Alongside the charging infrastructure, the Freeport Bus Yard will house the electric school buses used by the Boston Public School system, which is considered “one of the most prominent school districts” in the USA.

Orion’s Voltrek division has worked with the Boston Public School district before, and together, they aim to electrify the school district’s entire bus fleet of 750 vehicles. This makes this the largest school-bus electrification programme in the Northeastern USA. So far, they write that they have installed 13 charging stations for the Lower Pioneer Valley School Educational Cooperative, also located in Massachusetts.

The charging infrastructure provider further writes that it is “spearheading numerous fleet-electrification initiatives in the Northeast.” This includes “multiple-location deployments in municipalities and roll-outs of electric van charging capabilities.”

“Orion/Voltrek is proud to be a reliable long-term provider of EV Charging, Infrastructure and Maintenance to BPS, one of the most innovative public school districts in America,” said Orion Chief Executive Officer Sally Washlow. “Fleet managers increasingly rely on Orion/Voltrek to deliver the quality, reliability and scalability that enterprise fleet managers require.”
