CharterUP to integrate autonomous shuttles from Holon

Holon has secured another partner in the USA: CharterUP. The group transport platform plans to integrate Holon’s autonomous shuttles into its portfolio. The focus will be less on one-off charter bookings and more on long-term shuttle services, for example at airports or university campuses.

CharterUP’s mission is to revolutionise private group transport in North America by offering real-time availability, dynamic pricing, instant booking, and live tracking. This enables customers to charter a bus in as little as 60 seconds. The platform is widely used by companies, universities, and schools—and no longer just provides one-off bus bookings for trips, corporate events, or school outings. It also organises regular shuttle services, such as those for airports or universities.

The company’s collaboration with Holon—a German startup spun off from automotive supplier Benteler in early 2023—focuses on these regular shuttle services. While booking an autonomous shuttle for individual routes may also appeal to some, regulations require that the Holon Urban shuttle vehicle, operating at SAE Level 4, remains within predefined operational zones that the vehicle’s AI already knows well.

CharterUP highlights that Holon’s 15-seater shuttle is ideally suited for fixed routes and can also operate as an on-demand service at speeds of up to 60 km/h. Thanks to its design, the vehicle—which Holon plans to manufacture soon in a factory under construction in Florida—is perfect for airports, municipalities, corporate campuses, and campus-like environments. It helps reduce congestion while promoting sustainable mobility.

“This partnership accelerates our mission to redefine group mobility by bringing AI-first intelligence and autonomous capability into real-world transportation operations,” said Armir Harris, Founder and CEO of CharterUP. “By offering Holon’s mobility solutions to our customers, we can help organisations evolve their transportation networks responsibly, starting with human-driven operations and transitioning to fully autonomous shuttles when they are ready. This is a major step toward safer, more efficient, and more modern transportation..”

Sven Herzig, Chief Sales Officer at Holon, added: “Partnering with CharterUP is an important step in bringing autonomous mobility into everyday transportation networks. By combining Holon’s integrated 360° mobility solution with CharterUP’s proven deployment expertise and national reach, we are enabling organisations to adopt autonomous transit safely, sustainably, and at scale—from early pilots to full operations.”

The Holon Urban is set to make its public debut soon in Hamburg, northern Germany, as part of the ALIKE project. In this initiative, funded by the German government with €26 million, ride-pooling services using autonomous vehicles at SAE automation Level 4 will be tested starting this year. Alongside the Holon Urban, the VW ID. Buzz AD will also be deployed.
