Octopus launches fleet charging solution

Octopus Energy is entering the EV fleet market with its new product, 'Octopus Fleet'. Billed as a 'one-stop shop' for businesses looking to electrify their fleets, it covers charging, payments, infrastructure and more.

It’s the first unified fleet EV solution to be offered by Octopus, which up until now, has concentrated largely on consumer EV charging through its Electroverse charging network and range of home EV chargers and solar / battery products. But it’s also a logical next step for the business. Octopus will lean on its existing competencies to offer what it calls a ‘the ultimate mix-and-match of charging solutions’ from which fleets can build ‘their own tailored system’.

So what does Octopus Fleet look like in practice? Well, it combines ‘one-tap’ Electroverse access with a new Fleet Charging Card, a Business Payments Card (for charging, meals, tolls etc), as well as hardware offerings such as chargers, rooftop solar and battery systems.

On top of that, the energy company has also launched its Home Charging Reimbursement scheme, which enables drivers to be reimbursed for charging their work EV at home without the need for manual expense claims. This touches on a key USP for Octopus Fleet: a single invoice is issued for the entire fleet, with little need for individual manual admin.

Besides the fleet side of things, there’s also a few incentives for drivers / employees, with Octopus Fleet offering a salary sacrifice scheme for purchasing EVs as well as public charging.

The news follows the announcement of a partnership between Monta and Octopus back in November, which electrive reported would see Monta support the ‘Octopus Fleet’ range including through the use of the Monta Hub fleet management tool. Presumably, this partnership is beginning to show results with Monta involved in the Fleet offering.

“Choosing an electric vehicle is easier than ever, but every business operates differently and we’ve seen that it can be a challenge to scale up electrification efforts, and to make the EV switch a no-brainer for drivers,” said Matt Davies, Director of Octopus Electroverse and Octopus Fleet. “With Octopus Fleet we’re offering a ‘menu’ of simple products that make sense regardless of how a fleet operates – with great options across public, home and depot charging, and for keeping your existing fleet running.”
