TE Connectivity acquires charging inlets business from Phoenix Contact

TE Connectivity has finalised a strategic asset deal with Phoenix Contact E-Mobility. The US-based supplier is acquiring key parts of the company’s e-mobility unit, including the business for charging inlets used in electric vehicles.

According to the Switzerland-based group headquartered in Schaffhausen, the acquisition enhances TE Connectivity’s ability to serve major global automotive customers and supports its long-term growth strategy. The agreement also highlights the company’s intention to ‘expand its commercial presence in key markets and offer customers in Europe and beyond a competitive range of solutions.’

The transaction does not cover the entirety of Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH. TE is acquiring only the charging inlets business – namely the vehicle-side charging sockets. Charging cables and the corresponding plugs will remain with Phoenix Contact. The e-mobility subsidiary has announced that it will no longer supply automotive manufacturers and will withdraw from the automotive sector.

TE stated that the acquired business is ‘well-positioned to accelerate revenue growth and ensure continuity of supply for key OEM programmes in an evolving industry.’ The parties have not disclosed the financial details of the agreement.

“This agreement supports our focus on delivering advanced connectivity solutions that are essential for next-generation vehicle platforms,” said Jean-Michel Renaudie, President of TE Automotive. “It strengthens our ability to support our core customers with continuity and solidifies our position in Europe.”

TE expects the acquired assets to contribute to revenue in the 2026 financial year, with further effects anticipated in subsequent years. “TE will integrate the necessary technologies and competencies through close collaboration between engineering and commercial teams, together with Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH and customer teams,” the company stated. “The goal is a seamless transition and the continuation of existing programmes.”

In January 2025, Phoenix Contact announced job reductions at its e-mobility subsidiary and, for the first time in its history, opened the business to external investors. However, the search for an investor in Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH did not result in a transaction – until the charging inlets business was sold to TE Connectivity.
