RAW Charging to open UK’s largest ‘destination’ charging hub
In total, 554 AC ‘fast’ chargers and 446 DC rapid chargers will be installed at Landsec-owned retail destinations, including not just Bluewater but the likes of Gunwharf Quays, White Rose Shopping Centre, and Brighton Marina. The new infrastructure is intended to enable ‘meaningful top-up within typical retail dwell times of 30 minutes to 1 hour’.
It’s part of a 20-year partnership between Landsec and RAW Charging which also covers a replace-and-upgrade programme for existing charging infrastructure at Landsec sites. All chargers will be available on major EV charging apps – although it is not specified which apps this includes – and have contactless payment.
Landsec, which operates some of the UK’s busiest retail destinations, sees the rollout as part of a broader shift to integrate EV charging into everyday journeys. With millions of annual visitors across its portfolio, the landlord is positioning destination charging as a core amenity rather than an add-on.
“As more drivers switch to electric, retail destinations have a clear responsibility to make charging simple, accessible and part of everyday life,” said Ben Padley, Head of Consumer at Landsec. “Through this partnership, we’re embedding high‑quality, future‑ready EV infrastructure across our portfolio, including plans for what will become the UK’s largest destination charging hub at Bluewater. This long‑term investment strengthens our guest offer and provides convenient charging options for current and future EV drivers.”
