As part of the agreement, the partners plan to install charging systems featuring 180 kW dual-gun technology. The collaboration will utilise HPCL’s network of more than 24,400 fuel stations to accelerate the deployment of public charging infrastructure.

The partnership is intended to ‘enhance EV users’ experience and accelerate EV adoption in India,’ according to the announcement. The companies added that the initiative forms part of efforts to build ‘a comprehensive EV ecosystem’ and represents ‘an important foundation for realising the goal of widespread electric vehicle adoption.’

The use of existing fuel station locations is expected to facilitate faster rollout and improve coverage along key transport corridors and in urban areas. HPCL already operates over 5,400 charging points under its HP e-Charge brand, providing an existing base for further expansion.

HPCL’s extensive retail footprint is seen as a key enabler for scaling charging infrastructure across the country. The company is expanding its activities in alternative energy and electric mobility as part of its transition strategy, including the rollout of EV charging and battery swapping stations.

Charge_iN by Mahindra is positioning the initiative as part of its wider strategy to develop an ultrafast charging network and support the adoption of electric vehicles in India’s passenger car segment.
