VWCV upgrades the ID. Buzz for the new model year
For the new model year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced a technology update for the ID. Buzz, including a new all-wheel-drive variant. The ID. Buzz Pro 4MOTION adopts the drivetrain of the ID. Buzz GTX without modifications.
This setup combines the 210 kW electric motor on the rear axle with an additional motor on the front axle, increasing system output to 250 kW, in line with the GTX. In the ID. Buzz with the standard wheelbase, the battery offers a net energy content of 79 kWh, while the long-wheelbase version, extended by 25 cm, uses an 86 kWh battery.
In addition to the all-wheel-drive system and increased power, the ID. Buzz Pro 4MOTION offers a feature that previously left many customers with no choice but to opt for the GTX: compared to the rear-wheel-drive variant, the towing capacity increases by 600 kilogrammes—reaching up to 1.8 tonnes with the standard wheelbase and 1.6 tonnes with the long wheelbase.
The ID. Buzz GTX, which shares the same drivetrain, remains in the lineup. However, it is no longer exclusively the most powerful top model but instead a sporty equipment variant with exclusive design elements.
The update also brings a new colour option. Previously, ‘Cherry Red’ was reserved for the GTX model—either as a solid finish or, for an additional charge, as a silver-red two-tone. For the 2026 model year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is extending the colour to the Pro variants. The models now offer ‘Cherry Red’ in the ‘Candy White/Cherry Red’ two-tone combination.
The software also receives several updates and enhancements. The ID. Buzz can now optionally feature a new development stage of the ‘Travel Assist’ system. As the system relies on various online data sources, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has renamed it ‘Connected Travel Assist.’ For the first time in this line-up, the driver assistance system for assisted lateral and longitudinal guidance also reacts to traffic lights.
“If the system detects a red traffic light, it automatically brakes the ID. Buzz to a standstill,” explains VWCV. This function works because the model now supports one-pedal driving, allowing it to decelerate to a complete stop through recuperation alone, independently of the assistance system.
Additionally, the carmaker introduced the new Innovision infotainment system. “A new app store is integrated into the system, which allows functions and services to be activated or expanded digitally, flexibly and on a vehicle-specific basis. Just like with a smartphone, popular apps from areas such as audio, video streaming, parking, charging and gaming are available for download here,” the company states.
Furthermore, the steering wheel now features physical push buttons instead of the previously criticised touch-sensitive surfaces.
Like other MEB models in the recent facelift series, the ID. Buzz also receives a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function. Using a suitable adapter for the charging port, electrical devices with up to 2.0 kW can be powered from the drive battery—such as an electric grill while camping or an e-bike battery during a weekend trip.
However, there are currently no further visual changes or the (smaller) LFP batteries found in other MEB models from VW, Cupra, and Škoda for the ID. Buzz. That changes are on the horizon had already been hinted at: VWCV included the ID. Buzz in a discount campaign for its electric models, offering reductions of up to 6,000 euros to clear remaining 2025 model year vehicles.
