The Renault 4 is now also available with an electric canvas roof

Renault has opened UK orders for the Renault 4 E-Tech electric ‘Plein Sud’, a new variant featuring an electrically operated canvas roof. Prices start at £27,445 OTR after the UK’s £3,750 Electric Car Grant, with first deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

Renault said the ‘Plein Sud’ roof is inspired by the original Renault 4’s fabric roof design, while bringing ‘the spirit of open-top versatility into the modern era.’ The manufacturer adds that the Renault 4 E-Tech electric ‘Plein Sud’ is ‘the only electric car in its segment that offers a fully opening roof.’

The ‘Plein Sud’ roof is offered exclusively on techno+ and iconic+ models and carries a £1,500 premium over equivalent fixed-roof versions. R Pass customers can place orders immediately, while general UK order books open on 14 May.

The electrically operated roof creates an 80 x 92 cm opening and can be controlled using a one-touch switch or through voice commands via Renault’s Reno digital assistant. The canvas roof folds into three sections and can be positioned at several intermediate opening points. When closed, Renault says the multi-layer construction maintains acoustic insulation and sealing performance, while headroom remains close to that of the fixed-roof version.

The company also emphasised that luggage capacity has been retained despite the roof mechanism. Boot space remains up to 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded down, matching the standard Renault 4 E-Tech electric. The model also features a 60.7 cm loading sill and a wide-opening tailgate, with a powered tailgate fitted as standard on iconic+ versions.

Both trim levels use the same electric drivetrain configuration. The Renault 4 E-Tech electric ‘Plein Sud’ is equipped with a 52 kWh lithium-ion NMC battery and a 110 kW electric motor delivering 77 kW and 245 Nm of torque. WLTP range is rated at up to 242 miles.

The introduction of the ‘Plein Sud’ version coincides with updates to the Renault 4 E-Tech electric’s driver assistance systems in line with the latest GSR2.3 safety requirements. Renault said the model now offers up to 28 advanced driver assistance systems. These include a new driver monitoring system using an A-pillar-mounted camera, emergency stop assist and predictive eco-driving functions using onboard map data.

Renault has also expanded personalisation options across the Renault 4 E-Tech electric range, including new exterior graphics and six body colours. All variants are fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
