Rivian begins deliveries of its highly anticipated R2
Rivian first unveiled the R2 over two years ago, in March 2024. Rivian announced the pricing and trim levels for the new R2 in March 2026. Initially, only the well-equipped R2 Performance version with the Launch Package will be available, starting at $57,990. More affordable variants are expected to follow, with prices likely to drop to around $45,000. In April 2026, the battery-electric vehicle manufacturer also began series production of the R2 at its plant in Normal, Illinois, USA.
“I am really proud of the work our team poured into creating R2” said RJ Scaringe, Founder and CEO of Rivian. “This vehicle reflects the passion and excitement of the entire Rivian team who have worked tirelessly to bring it to life. I can’t wait for customers to experience this vehicle.”
For now, only vehicles from the aforementioned Launch Edition will be delivered. At the same time, Rivian has invited the first holders of existing R2 reservations to configure and order their desired vehicle. The invitation is based on various factors, particularly the reservation date and delivery location.
An exciting question for the Rivian R2 is whether and when the model will arrive in Europe. The US manufacturer initially stated 2027 as the launch year for Europe. However, in early 2026, Rivian quietly removed this date from its European websites. The brand’s first model, the R1, was never made available in Europe.
