Ultratech Cement deploys 45 electric trucks in India
The company plans to use the new electric trucks to transport clinker from the Kotputli Cement Works unit in Rajasthan to the grinding units at Dadri Cement Works and Sikandrabad Cement Works in Uttar Pradesh. The route spans approximately 250 kilometres and passes through Haryana.
UltraTech Cement has partnered with Energy In Motion (EIM), a local electric commercial vehicle solutions provider, for the latest initiative. The company has not announced which model it is using, but press images suggest it is deploying EIM’s Ashwa model, a rebadged version of Foton’s eAuman. EIM has exclusive rights to assemble and market Foton’s electric heavy-duty commercial vehicles across India. It is also building a battery-swapping and charging network across the country.
The Ashwa is a 55-tonne electric tractor featuring a 282 kWh swappable battery pack. EIM has not revealed the range but says the swapping process takes less than seven minutes.
Ravindra Energy, which owns a 49.5 per cent stake in EIM, revealed in a business report in April 2026 that an upgraded version with a 350 kWh battery pack is in the pipeline and undergoing homologation. It also said that EIM had established three operating battery-swap stations to date and was in the process of installing seven more. By March 2026, cumulative deliveries of the Ashwa stood at 311 units.
UltraTech Cement expects the addition of 45 electric trucks to its fleet to reduce its diesel consumption by about 2.9 million litres annually and save over 8,900 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. “This deployment demonstrates our commitment to building a future-ready logistics network while supporting the nation’s sustainability ambitions,” said K C Jhanwar, the company’s Managing Director.
