India: Wonder Cement deploys ten electric heavy-duty trucks
Wonder Cement says it has partnered with SG Green Logistics, which claims to be India’s largest operator of electric heavy-duty trucks, for the initiative. This suggests the company has not purchased the trucks but is using them under a service-based model, following an asset-light strategy.
QUCEV, a local electric commercial vehicle startup based in Hyderabad, Telangana, supplied the ten electric heavy-duty trucks. The fleet comprises the company’s Q55 55-tonne electric tractor, along with a custom dump trailer. QUCEV has a technological partnership with BYD and is likely using it to market a rebadged version of a 55-tonne electric tractor from the Chinese company. According to a report from Startup Researcher, its agreement with BYD allows it to import vehicles in completely knocked-down (CKD) kits for local assembly.
The Q55 measures 6.40 metres in length, 2.55 metres in width, and 3.32 metres in height, and has a 3.60-metre wheelbase. QUCEV says it is suitable for tanker, bulker, steel, container, and cement and mining applications. The 55-tonne electric truck features a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 210 kW and 500 Nm of torque, and a 301.6 kWh LFP battery pack.
QUCEV claims the Q55 can achieve a top speed of 80 km/h and a maximum range of 175 kilometres. The company says that the battery pack supports charging at up to 300 kW via a dual-gun CCS 2 charger, but it has not revealed the charging time.
Commenting on the deployment, Gautam C., Head of EV Project and Charging Infrastructure at SG Green Logistics, said: “This initiative reflects a growing industry shift toward cleaner, smarter, and future-ready logistics operations. The adoption of electric trucks is not just about reducing emissions; it is about building a more efficient, technology-driven, and sustainable supply chain ecosystem for the future.”
