India: Tata Motors secures over 3,400 electric CV orders

The majority of the orders Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles has received are for entry-level, low-capacity models that are more affordable. The company says that roughly 2,000 units, or approximately 59 per cent of the total 3,400+ orders, are for small commercial vehicles and pick- ups. It offers models such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV 1000, and Intra EV Pickup in this segment, with gross vehicle weight (GVW) ratings of 1,610 to 3,310 kg.

Trucks account for about 900 units or approximately 26 per cent of the total 3,400+ orders. Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles offers six trucks, including both medium- and heavy-duty models: Ultra E.7, Ultra E.9, Ultra E.12, Prima E.28K, Prima E.28K 6×4 Tipper, and Prima E.55S 4×2 Tractor. The GVW rating of these models ranges from 7.5 tonnes to 55 tonnes.

Buses have contributed just around 500 units, making up approximately 15 per cent of the total order book of over 3,400 units. Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles has quite an extensive line-up in this segment, though. The range starts with the Ultra 9 seven-metre model for staff commute, school transport, and urban transit applications, featuring up to 26 seats. Then there’s the nine-metre version of the same electric bus, available for staff commute, school transport, and urban transit applications, with up to 52 seats.

In the higher range, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles offers the Starbus 9 for staff commute and urban transit applications and the Starbus 4 exclusively for the latter. Both are twelve-metre models, with the former offering up to 45 seats and the latter up to 35 seats.

To date, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles has delivered more than 3,800 electric buses, which have together clocked a distance of over 550 million kilometres. As for electric small commercial vehicles, the company has over 17,000 units plying on the roads.
