Linfox to deploy 26 electric trucks in new haulage fleet

Linfox, Australia's biggest private logistics company, is set to deploy 26 electric trucks on heavy-haulage routes across Melbourne, Brisbane, and Adelaide. The electric HGVs will replace a number of diesel trucks currently in use.

Backed by federal government funding and clean transportation schemes, Linfox has begun deploying the first of its new eHGVs on high-traffic freight corridors. The new trucks are being integrated into food, beverage, and integrated rail logistics operations, and are set to cover around 500km a day. The trucks themselves are Volvo eFM Prime Movers.

Linfox has confirmed that the trucks will replace diesel vehicles on freight routes – initially, from its hubs in Laverton North, and later from Willawong and the Adelaide rail-freight terminal. To support their introduction, Linfox is also installing 25 new fast-charging systems as well as solar energy generation capabilities across the three hubs.

The deployment marks a broadening electrification push within Australia’s heavy freight sector, one which is being supported by over $19 million AUD in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)’s Driving the Nation programme. This scheme aims to reduce barriers to electric truck adoption by supporting new charging infrastructure, fleet operating models, and commercial demonstrations of zero-emission freight. Linfox itself first began deploying zero-emission trucks in 2021, including Volvo FL BEVs and Daimler Fuso eCanters – and in 2025, it placed the country’s largest order of eHGVs to date.

“This investment in electric trucks, fast chargers and onsite solar systems could deliver the biggest cut to Linfox’s fuel use, emissions and running costs in its seven-decade history,” said Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said.

He added: “When Linfox put in the biggest order for electric trucks in Australia, it was already the best decision for the future of the business and the 24,000 people it employs. And while governments across Australia continue to secure Australia’s supply of diesel and exhaust fluid, Linfox has taken a huge step to secure its energy security and consistently low running costs.”
