The Vietnamese electric ride-hailing service Green SM has expanded to its sixth international market: Kazakhstan. It marks the company's commercial entry into Central Asia.

To start, Green SM – part of Vingroup – will deploy a ridehailing fleet of Vinfast VF 6 Eco eSUVs in Almaty, the country’s largest city. There, it says it hopes to offer “quieter journeys along busy city streets, more comfortable travel in everyday life, and greater reliability through service standards that are consistently maintained across every trip”. The market entry will also see Green SM invest in training programmes for its ‘Green Drivers’ covering operations, safety, and customer service, in a bid to ensure consistent service across the city.

As part of a launch promotion, Green SM will offer 26 per cent off rides booked through the Green SM app (up to KZT 2626, around ~€4.87). The app itself can now be used to access the company’s services on the App Store and Google Play. Additionally, Green SM has established strategic partnerships with five organisations in Kazakhstan through its ‘Green Alliance Frontier’ initiative. Vingroup confirmed these partners have a presence “across transportation, tourism, technology, and service sectors”, but did not name any names.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan, Global Chief Executive Officer of GSM, said: “Kazakhstan is a market with strong potential, dynamic growth, and rising expectations for modern services. We come to Kazakhstan with respect for the market, a long-term commitment to investment, and a desire to work alongside local partners in developing high-quality mobility solutions that meet the everyday needs of the community. “

This marks a second international expansion for Green SM this month. Earlier in July, the electric taxi operator confirmed it had expanded to India, launching operations with a fleet of Vinfast Limo Green EVs – under the local name of ‘Green SM Limo’. Initially, Green SM is offering its ride-hailing service in the national capital, Delhi, as well as Gurugram and Noida, both part of the National Capital Region (NCR). The company says it will expand to more locations in a phased manner.
