Northvolt confirms plans for IPO in next two years

The Swedish battery wunderkind Northvolt has confirmed plans to go public within the next two years. The battery cell company backed by Volkswagen or BMW was “well-positioned” for an initial public offering, Chairman Carl-Erik Lagercrantz said in an interview.

Northvolt granted funding for German plant

Northvolt is to recieve European funding for its battery factory in Germany. In Berlin, the German Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck officially handed over notification of IPCEI funding (Important Projects of Common European Interest) to Northvolt.

Northvolt to build battery factory in Germany

The Swedish battery cell manufacturer Northvolt has announced another battery factory, this time in Germany. ‘Northvolt Drei’ is to be built in Heide in Schleswig-Holstein and will have an annual production capacity of 60 GWh.

Northvolt to build second battery factory in Sweden

Northvolt plans to convert a closed Stora Enso paper mill in Sweden into a gigafactory to produce up to 100 GWh of cathode material as well as battery cells. The two companies have signed a letter of intent that calls for Northvolt to purchase the Kvarnsveden Mill in Borlänge, Sweden, and the surrounding industrial area.

Batteries are now being produced at Northvolt

Northvolt has started up its Ett factory in Skellefteå, Sweden, with the production of the first battery cell. Northvolt says the first prismatic cell was manufactured there on 28 December. The first deliveries to customers are scheduled for 2022.

Northvolt & Galp to build lithium plant in Portugal

The Swedish battery cell manufacturer Northvolt is setting up a 50:50 joint venture with Portugal’s energy company Galp. Under the direction of the joint venture Aurora, a lithium conversion plant will be built in Portugal. The future location of the plant is still under discussion.

Northvolt produces first 100% recycled NMC battery cell

Northvolt has produced its first battery cell with 100 per cent recycled nickel, manganese and cobalt as part of its Revolt recycling programme. The company is now looking to scale up its recycling facilities in Sweden to establish a facility able to recycle 125,000 tons of batteries per year.
