Mercedes & Geely joint venture for Smart ready to go

The China joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely around Smart announced at the end of March last year has now been formally established with all relevant final approvals from Chinese authorities. The first electric Smart cars made in China are to be launched on the market in 2022.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk answered a Twitter user complaining about charged Tesla blocking Supercharger stalls, even after they finished charging. Musk did not say, however, how the carmaker intends to tackle the issue.

Infiniti Motor Company president Roland Krueger says the brand is considering “very concrete” concepts for electric cars, now that they are becoming more mainstream. Infiniti had put its electric ambitions on hold back in 2013 to focus on rebuilding its core models.

Geely president An Conghui wants to double sales to 1.2 million cars in 2019. Not all of them will be electric or hybrid though the Chinese car maker is undergoing extensive rebranding and restructuring efforts which will also see them working more closely with Volvo in the future.
