Volvo has extensively revised the drive systems of its electric models XC40 and C40. In the all-wheel drive models, an asynchronous motor replaces the previously used permanent synchronous motor on the front axle. The new motor layout of the all-wheel-drive models also has consequences for the single-motor models.

Volvo Cars has inaugurated a battery assembly line at its Belgian production site in Ghent. Batteries for the XC40 Recharge P8 will start rolling off assembly lines at the Ghent plant from March, while the production of the first electric Volvo is also scheduled to start in Ghent in the autumn.

The Catalan regional government is about to introduce a carbon tax on cars, vans and motorcycles. Catalonia will thus be the first region in Spain to ask owners of climate-harming vehicles to pay. Taxation is to come in retroactively for 2019 already.

London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be expanded up to the North and South Circular boundary in 2021, London Mayor Sadiq Khan confirmed today. The new ULEZ will cover an area 18 times larger than the ULEZ in Central London.
