Volvo Cars to go electric in Australia from 2026
Volvo Cars will only offer electric cars in Australia from 2026. As Volvo Australia announces, no new combustion models will be introduced there either. The decision is probably not entirely uncontroversial, even among Volvo dealers there.
EU combustion vehicle sales ban under fire
Germany’s uncertain position on the phasing out of internal combustion vehicles (ICE) in the EU from 2035 appears to embolden other governments to make their own demands. If Germany abstains in the EU Council of Ministers, countries could succeed in watering down the incoming regulation on transport decarbonisation.
GM to go fossil-fuel free by 2035
General Motors has announced that it will largely abandon the internal combustion engine by 2035. The new focus will be on ‘light-duty vehicles’; these are passenger cars and light commercial vehicles up to 3.8 tonnes, according to the US definition. Explicitly, the company wants to “eliminate tailpipe emissions” from 2035.
