Volkswagen (VWCV) presents serial cargo e-bike

TU Delft & Gazelle developing crash-proof e-bike (video)

TU Delft, together with the bicycle manufacturer Gazelle, has developed the prototype of a crash-proof e-bike. The intelligent control assistant intervenes as soon as the electric bike threatens to tip over and keeps the bike stable and upright at speeds of over 4 km/h.

Ireland: An Post to deliver with 750 electric vehicles

An Post, the state-owned provider of postal services in Ireland, plans to purchase 750 electric vehicles by 2022, of which 200 will be on the roads this year. All deliveries in central Dublin are to be a 100% electric by the end of 2019 with other urban areas of Ireland to follow suit.

Paris to launch world’s largest electric bicycle fleet

The greater Paris area will be launching a state-funded initiative to move commuters from driving cars and switch to electric bicycles. Starting in September 2019, Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) will set up 10,000 e-bikes for long-term rental, with an option to expand to 20,000, which would make it the world’s largest e-bike rental programme.

Denmark grants speed pedelecs access to bike lanes

Speed Pedelecs, meaning electric bicycles with a maximum speed of 45 kph are allowed on bike lanes in Denmark as of July. Until now, they had to be registered as a small motorbike and had to follow rules different from those for bicycles.

UPS launches custom-made cargo e-bikes

34 new cargo pedelecs have joined the European fleet of logistics giant UPS. The bikes were specifically developed for the carrier together with Rytle. After initial testing in Germany, the cargo e-bikes are now coming to France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
