VW adds MEB capacity to U.S. plant in Chattanooga

Volkswagen has found the first production site for electric cars in North America: The Chattanooga plant in the US state of Tennessee will expand to build vehicles based on the modular electrification platform MEB. VW is investing around 700 million euros in the extension of the plant.

VW bundles their charging and energy business

Volkswagen announced the establishment of a subsidiary for energy offers and charging solutions. The Elli Group GmbH will be headquartered in Berlin and will develop energy and charging products and services for the Wolfsburg Group brands.

VW to take orders for ID. electric car in early 2019

As things stand at present, VW will take advance orders for the ID. “in the first half of 2019”. As yet, nothing has been said about the size of the down payment required. Meanwhile, more than 30 CEOs of VWs most important suppliers recently came to Wolfsburg for the “MEB Supplier Event”.

VW to show ID. Lounge & e-beach buggy in Shanghai

VW will be present its next electric vehicle based on the MEB platform at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019. The ID. Lounge will share the booth with a revival of the Meyers Manx beach buggy build on a similarly iconic Beetle only in electrified form.

VW confirms electric vehicle plants in Emden & Hanover

Volkswagen will be investing a total of 44 billion euros in future technologies by 2023 with about 3/4 of the money reserved for e-mobility alone. In accordance with the Boards latest priority, VW now confirmed their facilities in Emden and Hanover as new EV plants that will utilise the MEB platform.

Volkswagen upgrading Zwickau for 330,000 EV capacity

The German automobile manufacturer has announced their plan to upgrade the Zwickau facility to become the most effective electric vehicle production facility in Europe. A capacity of 330,000 vehicles per year is the eventual target for the CO²-neutral I.D. vehicle range, which will begin production in late 2019.

VW may build 3 electric car models in North America

As Volkswagen is pushing for global electrification, their plant in Chattanooga has made it back onto the map. VW’s main man for e-mobility, Thomas Ulbrich, mentioned up to three EV models that could be built there. A final decision has yet to be made though.

VW’s I.D. Crozz to hit the stores already in 2019?

VW intends to roll out the I.D. Crozz to an earlier date than initially planned, launching it in 2019 instead of 2020, according to information of the German magazine “Auto Motor und Sport”. That would mean that both, the I.D. and I.D. Crozz, would debut next year.
